Featured Community Event: Heather Gardens - NAACP Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration - Edit
All are invited to the Heather Gardens - NAACP celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in-person.
To honor Dr. King's legacy, the event will feature these presentations:
Emcee: Bernie Hupperts
10:00 am Speaker: Rev. Dr. Eugene Dawson followed by MLK video and songs
11:00 am Speaker: Rev. Dr. Thomas Mayes followed by MLK video and songs
12:00 pm Speaker: Rev. Dr. Katherine Farley followed by MLK video and songs
1:00 pm Speaker: Mr. Ashanti Black, lead groundskeeper at Fort Logan National Cemetery, sharing his story of growing up in Jim Crow Shreveport, LA and his journey through the military, prison, and as an honored veteran with a successful life, followed by MLK video
Singers: Roderick Dixon and his wife Alfreda Burke
Video Presentation:
We have one 30 minute video which will be shown 3 different times and introduced by three different pastors.
The auditorium will be divided in half; the stage half will host the video presentations; the kitchen half will host refreshments, several displays, and a silent TV which will be looping pictures representing Dr. King's life and work.
