LWVADC May Combined Meeting Criminal Justice - 7:00 PM

About this event

The League of Women Voters of Arapahoe and Douglas Counties invites all League members and their guests to our May combined general meeting on the topic of Criminal Justice featuring guest speakers on Tuesday, May 17 at 7:00 PM online.

In the beginning, we had jails, but did we have justice?

In November 2019, Arapahoe County voters overwhelmingly rejected a tax increase for a new jail.

We'll examine the reality of criminal justice in Arapahoe and Douglas counties. For example, 85 percent of inmates at the Arapahoe County facility suffer from mental illness. Come learn more about how the county has met its challenges over the past four years and how it hopes to solve some serious issues for the future.

Our guest speakers include:

  • Tyler Brown, Arapahoe County Sheriff
  • Jared Rowlison, Detention Services Bureau Chief  (oversees administration of Arapahoe County jail). Chief Rowlison will speak about the numerous issues affecting the Arapahoe County jail facility and the work that his committee is focused on involving trying to build a new jail.

More details to follow on our scheduled speakers.

LWV of Arapahoe and Douglas Counties members will receive the meeting Zoom link in an email.  Others are asked to email Barbara Dungey at barbara.b.dungey@gmail.com with CRIMINAL JUSTICE in the subject line for the Zoom link.
