The University of Colorado is hosting a panel discussion "Colorado Redistricting with Geographers: Fair Maps and Community Engagement" on Friday, September 3 at 3:30 PM. This meeting at the University in Boulder will be streamed live online.

This is a unique opportunity to learn more about Colorado redistricting and fair maps from several viewpoints.

After the panel, attendees will be able to answer basic questions about Colorado's process, understand what is at stake in Colorado, how different redistricting criteria affect the outcomes of representation, and how local groups are leveraging "communities of interest" to advocate for greater minority representation in state politics. When it comes to the fight for fair redistricting, there is no one better equipped than a geographer. By activating our collective power as a community and pressing to have as many geographers as possible involved in redistricting, we can set new expectations this year and show why geospatial thinkers are indispensable.

Panelists include:

•  Dr. Emily Yeh, University of Colorado Boulder, President of AAG - Moderator
•  Dr. Seth Spielman, University of Colorado Boulder - Geography's role in Fair Redistricting and Community Engagement in Colorado
•  Dr. Scott Adler, University of Colorado Boulder - Political Science Perspective on Gerrymandering
•  Julia Jackson, Colorado Independent Redistricting Commission - Upcoming Opportunities for Public Engagement
•  Amanda Gonzalez, Common Cause Colorado - Importance of Communities of Interest and Minority Representation in Colorado Politics
•  Dr. Caitlin M. Ryan, University of Colorado Boulder - Demonstration of Public Online Mapping Programs and Setup for Public to Submit Their Own Maps to Colorado’s Independent Redistricting Commission
